Furniture making as an occupational therapy for individuals with autism.
what
The Hoffmann Series is a set of furniture designed to be realised by low functioning autistic people and the aim is to make the production force an integral part of the product, giving the series an identity while benefiting the workforce.
who
This project is a collaboration between recent design graduate Leila Chouikh and the Hoffmann Foundation for Autism situated in North London, where craft-based activities help individuals with autism develop new skills and abilities.
why
This series of furniture creates a form of employement while alleviating symptoms of autism, such as stimming (a repetitive body movement) by engaging with a structured activity.
The income generated by this production will help create and fund new activities for the workforce, and collectively these activities enhance their quality of life by facilitating the connection with a wider community and a range of experiences.
